Tata Motors has applied for patent protection to cover all the innovations made in connection with the Tata Nano. The company has so far filed 37 inventions for patent security. A number of new concepts and innovations were used in the development of the Nano and patent security will help protect most of these against imitation in a highly competitive market.
Tata Motors will also soon file Intellectual Property Rights (IPRs) claims for the Nano in overseas markets. The car will be launched at the end of this month in the domestic market and in 2011, globally. Tata Motors will target low-income groups in overseas markets to sell the Nano, particularly in Africa, Southeast Asia, Eastern Europe and Latin America.
