Bajaj small car to deliver 30 km/l mileage

Bajaj Auto’s Ultra Low Cost (ULC) car project, conceived initially as a joint venture between Bajaj, Nissan and Renault, is still on track. While Bajaj was to hold 50 per cent equity in the project, Renault and Nissan were to hold 25 per cent each. A statement from Bajaj Auto said on Saturday that if Renault or Nissan were to back out because of financial constraints, the project would still be implemented on schedule. It will be launched in 2010-11.

The most important differentiator in the new car will be its high mileage. The vehicle, which will roll out from a plant in Chakan near Pune, is expected to deliver an on-road mileage of 30 km/l. Priced at Rs.1.5 lakh, it will give direct competition to the Tata Nano and is expected to be launched with both petrol and diesel options.
