Domestic passenger car sales in India grew from 87,901 units in July 2008 to 115,067 units in July 2009, up 31 per cent. Total passenger car sales in the country (exports included) grew by 29.18 per cent. The major reasons for the growth include a low base effect, new car launches and the availability of cheap car loans. According to Dilip Chenoy, the Director General of the Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM), the auto industry's good performance is likely to continue in the coming festival season.
