Tesla to open London showroom

A Tesla on the streets of the London Electric sports car company Tesla is to open a dealership in Knightsbridge, according to Chairman Elon Musk.

Investment-backed Tesla has also reached agreement on store leases in Chicago, and is close to finalising locations in Manhattan, Miami, Seattle and Munich.

All six facilities will open this year. The stores will offer prospective customers the chance to see and drive the Roadster in person.

Unlike traditional franchise dealerships, Tesla will own its stores and control the customer experience.

Company CEO Musk simultaneously provided an update into the company's position, which he described as secure.

"The $40M financing round completed in December was twice the amount Tesla needed to reach profitability.

"Moving forward two months later, we remain on track with our cost reductions and production ramp, so it appears highly likely that Tesla will meet the goal promised to those investors of becoming profitable by mid year."

Tesla has now produced more than 200 Roadsters for customers and there are more than 1,000 customers still awaiting delivery.

Cars are sold out until early November, and while there have been some cancellations due to buyers experiencing personal financial difficulties, new orders continue to flow in every week from the United States and Europe.

Finally, Tesla plans to unveil a street-drivable prototype of the Model S four-door saloon on March 26th.
