Skoda Set to Launch Three New Variants of Fabia

Skoda Auto India has announced to launch three new variants of its flagship model the Fabia including a sports variant this year.

The sport variant is planned seeing the increasing demand for sports cars in the Indian car market. Christened as Fabia Sportline, the new variants would have new interiors and powerful engines to cater to the growing needs of sports vehicles.

On account of this, the sales and marketing head of Skoda, Thomas Kuehl said, “We will launch multiple variants of the Fabia to leverage on its popularity. We will introduce Fabia Combi (estate version) and the tallboy Roomster models to consolidate the brand in the Indian market. We will also showcase the Fabia Rally car, though it will not be available for retail sale.”

Skoda is one of those few car manufacturers who have rejoiced improved sales even during the time of financial meltdown. Company's total sales grew 22% to 11,309 cars during April-December 2008.

Fabia is one of the largest selling cars of Skoda in the Indian car market which has reported a sales figure of 7,000 units in 2008. Presently, the car is being assembled and manufactured at Skoda’s Aurangabad facility. The production at this plant is soon to be shifted to Volkswagen’s upcoming plant at Pune by May 2009.

Soon after the launch of Fabia variants, Skoda also plans to introduce its Superb and Laura in near future. Mr. Kuehl said, “We have finalised plans to launch the next generation Superb in India and the new Laura will hit the market in the middle of 2009. We want to remain the segment leader in the Rs 10-25 Lakh bracket.” Furthermore, the company has plans to introduce its sports utility vehicle (SUV) Yeti by 2010.
