Porsche�s Panamera to debut in Sept
German sports car
maker Porsche expects to beat BMW�s 7 series and Mercedes S-Class sedan by launching its Panamera in September this year in India. Porsche India has already ordered 50 units of Panamera, which is expected to be priced above Rs 86 lakh for the Indian market. The model is likely to make its debut in the world market and in India in September.
�The launch of Panamera marks the entry of Porsche into a brand new segment. In India, we intend to introduce the model around the same time as its global debut. We have begun to get enquiries and we hope to sell 50-60 units of the model in the first year of its introduction in India,� said Mr Rod Wallace, Managing Director, Precision Cars India.
Porsche, which sold 168 units last year, has set a target of 250 units in the current year. Globally, it sold 98,000 units with the US accounting for nearly 40,000 units and Chinese sales were also much ahead of India at 8,000 units last year. Mr Wallace said that he expects the increase in sales through its sports utility vehicle Cayenne and Boxster. Porsche, which is present in Delhi and Mumbai through its dealerships, plans to drive into Hyderabad, Bangalore, Chennai, Ahmedabad and Kochi by the end of the year.

Ashok leyland sales up in Jan
CHENNAI: Ashok Leyland has reported a marginal rise in total sales at 2444 in January 2009 over 2307 in December 2008. But, it is a sharp fall compared to 9112 vehicles sold in January 2008. Domestic sales picked up by 620 to 2026 vehicles last month compared to December 08.
The company slightly increased its total production to 1170 in January 2009 over 960 in the previous month. It was 6833 an year ago. Exports dropped to 418 vehicles last month from 901 in December 2008 and 635 in January 08.
During April- January 2008-09, total sales dropped to 46087 against 65110 in the same period in the previous year. Of this, export sales came to 5565 ( 5453). Total production during the period dropped to 48,463 vehicles ( 66,644 vehicles).

Ashok Leyland�s January sales dipped 73 per cent to 2,444 units against 9,112 it sold a year ago period. However, there was a marginal growth in comparison with that of previous two months � November and December (2,307 units each). During April � January period it sold 46,087 units compared with 65,110 units in the corresponding period of last year � a fall of 29 per cent.

Eaton in pact with Tata Motors
Eaton Corporation has signed an agreement with Tata Motors, whereby its truck group will supply heavy duty synchronised transmissions to Tata Motors for use on its world truck programme in India as well as global markets. The agreement is valid till 2014, the company said.
Initial production will take place at Eaton plants in Tczew, Poland, and Wuxi, China, with production moving to its new facility in Pune, India, as volumes increase.
�This is a very important achievement for Eaton in meeting our significant growth goals for India and the Asia-Pacific region in general,� Mr James E. Sweetnam, President, Eaton�s Truck Group, said.
