Automobile show fuels great interest

CHANDIGARH: The love for cars and bikes among region’s residents fuelled tremendous interest at Auto Mall 2009. Organizers of the three-day event that concluded on Sunday said more than 2.2 lakh people visited the exhibition, which was much higher than expected. They said there were 18,670 inquiries out of which 1,656 were ‘hot’, meaning they were expected to turn into actual sales.

Sandeep Kapoor, managing director of the Relio Quick India Ltd, which organized the exhibition, said, ‘’The response here was such that we could have met all the expenses of the show if there had been entry tickets.’’ Even the 2300cc ‘’Triumph Rocket III’’ motorcycle priced at Rs 20 lakh received six genuine queries, which proved right the organizers’ assumption that there were many bike lovers in the region. ‘’Pocket bikes’’ meant for children were also quite a hit with 240 genuine queries, said the organizers. The 30cc bikes are priced at Rs 25,000.

Super bikes received over 400 ‘hot’ inquiries. There were 590 queries for premium category cars, which cost Rs 15 lakh and above.

Twenty-eight concerns participated in the event. Some of the eminent brands were Mitusbishi, General Motors, Maruti, Tata Motors, Skoda, Honda, Mahindra & Mahindra, Mahindra Renault, Volkswagen, Toyota, Volvo, Magus Cars, Ford and Eicher Motors. Two wheeler majors Hero Honda, Yamaha, LML, Hero Electric, Avon, Electrotherm were also there. Organizers plan to return with the event to the city in September.
